The Federal Government of Nigeria has been requested to restore the non-operational textile industries of the country, in order to promote the indigenous fabrics of the West African country.
The ongoing decline in the number of Nigerian textile industries is a constant threat to the indigenous fabrics which reflect the nation’s culture, said Abiola Hammed of the Amrosh Communications, which is organizing a fashion show in Nigeria.
The collection displayed at the fashion show will be based on the theme ‘Redefining Fashion, Social Vibes and Promoting the Culture Business Association in Kwara’.
At a press conference held to announce the fashion show, Mr. Hammed said the Federal Government should soon look into the issue regarding closing of Nigerian textile units, and encourage patronage of indigenous fabrics of Nigeria and also stop indecent dressing among the youth.
He made an appeal to the Government to help create more jobs in the country’s textile sector, which is currently facing hard times.
Mr. Hammed, who is the head of Human Capital Development at Amrosh Communications, added that the fashion show will also be an attempt to promote the tourism potential of Nigeria.
