Packaging systems provider in the US Packsize International has launched its interactive website, www.packsize.com/green, in a bid to address various packaging issues.
With the launch of the new website, the company is inviting consumers to share their 'bad packaging' experiences to help carry a 'fix it' message back to the business channel, and spread the word about wasteful packaging.
Packsize CEO Hanko Kiessner said in 2011 consumers worldwide discarded 76 million tons of packaging waste.
" Imagine...if empty packaging space alone could be eliminated -- which currently comprises 40 percent of all shipped boxing in one year -- we'd save the planet more than 90 million trees annually," Kiessner said.
The Packsize proposition puts the ability to make a right-sized corrugated box on the pack line, minimizing the air waste and often petroleum-based fillers used for the protection of product.
"Using the smallest possible box for any given product shipped to the consumer does more than save trees," Kiessner added.
