US-based UPMC Health Plan has inked an agreement with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to offer its health insurance coverage through Qualified Health Plans (QHP) on the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace.
Under the terms of the agreement, the health insurer will immediately start selling its offerings on the marketplace, which is also known as the health insurance exchange.
Starting from 1 October 2013, individuals and employer groups may purchase insurance plans on the Marketplace, the company said.
UPMC Health Plan president and CEO Diane Holder said that the firm's wide variety of offerings assures that individuals and companies on all different income levels will find a plan that fits their needs.
"We are very pleased that affordable health care coverage will become available to more people in our region including for those individuals who may qualify for a government subsidy," Holder added.
