A hydraulic press is a machine using a hydraulic cylinder to generate a compressive thrust. It uses the hydraulic equivalent of a mechanical lever to generate force. The hydraulic press depends on Pascal's principle; i.e. the pressure in a closed system is constant (Pascals law states that Pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted undiminished to every part of the fluid, as well as to the walls of the container). One part of the system is a piston acting as a pump, with modest mechanical force acting on a small cross-sectional area; the other part is a piston with a larger area which generates a correspondingly large mechanical force. Any externally applied pressure is transmitted to all parts of the enclosed fluid, making possible a large multiplication of force. Pressure is transmitted undiminished in an enclosed static fluid. A common application of Hydraulic Press can be illustrated in car lifting process. Here, force is applied at one end of cylinder and this force lifts the car at the other end.

Now a days these press has become the major alternative for direct mechanical force. The reasons for this is lower setup & maintenance cost, larger capacities, more control flexibility, lesser lubrication costs, higher versatility, compact in size of equipment, lesser tool costs and importantly more safety. The components of hydraulic presses are cylinder, body frame, daylight, bed, bolster, strokes etc. Press capacity ranges from 100 tons to 10000 tons or even more depending on the applications. The only drawback of these presses is that it does not offer as much speed as mechanical press. If the application requires more speed, mechanical press is the best option.

Hydraulic presses are used in pressing, moulding, blanking, deep drawing, punching, metal forming operations and forging application in mechanical industries. They are used in applications such as in making plywood, doors, block boards, shuttering plywood, checkered plywood, laminates, wood compreg, particle board, coir mattresses and for pressing metals such as mica. In plywood and wood making industries, plywood press is widely used.

Srichakra Engineering is renowned and well established hydraulic press manufacturers. They are the leading suppliers of hydraulic plywood presses of 100 to 6000 tons capacity. They have over 2000 installations of hydraulic presses across the world. They are in the field since 1985 and have strong foothold in the market. Most renowned companies of the world have used Srichakras presses for various industrial applications. They are the most trusted name for wood presses.
