The Government of Turkey Drafts an Action Plan to Establish Logistics Centres for Textile

The Government of Turkey has drafted an action plan to establish logistics centres for textile, apparel and leather sectors.
 
According to the five year action plan 2013-2017, these logistics centres would be created to reduce the clustering of textile, garment and leather industries in the regions and cities of Istanbul and other ports.
 
The plan was drafted jointly by the Ministries of Industries and Environment, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), the General Secretariat of Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter’s Association (ITKIB) and the Office of the Prime Minister (TOKI).
 
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture would work to avoid fluctuations in the supply of cotton, by increasing the production levels, by developing a dynamic mechanism, and increase the quality of cotton.
 
The scope of work, to be carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, is to reduce production costs by creating logistics centres in the villages of eastern and western Turkey.
 
A knitting special industry zone would be established under the five year plan to reduce the clustering and disorganized presence of industries.
 
The new industry zone would have 800 knitting operations which would bring an organized structure in the sector.
 
The exports of textiles, excluding apparel, from Turkey increased by 6.6 percent during the first six months of 2013, compared to the corresponding period of last year.
