On 26 October 2012, the Swedish Setra Group announced a reduction in sawing at its Vimmerby pine sawmill from two-shift to one-and-a-half shift operations until further notice. As a result, the mill‘s annual performance will be down from 160, 000 m3 to a future level of 127, 000 m3 of pine lumber per year, representing a production cutback of 21%. Johan Padel, president and CEO of Setra, justified this move with the tight roundwood-supply situation in the region, excessively high roundwood-procurement costs compared to achievable lumber prices and the uncertain forecasts for the mill‘s main sales markets. During the course of reduction of sawing operations, approximately 20 of the existing work force of 70 will be made redundant. Source: euwid-wood-products
