Trade Resources Industry Views Pakistani Textile Exporters Can Benefit by Increasing Their Value-Added Exports to Japan

Pakistani Textile Exporters Can Benefit by Increasing Their Value-Added Exports to Japan

Pakistani textile exporters can benefit by increasing their value-added exports to Japan, which requires them to enhance their knowledge about Japanese standards, which are different from norms followed in other industrialized countries, officials of the Japan Industrial Cooperation Agency (JICA) said.

To make this possible, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has invited experts from Japanese textile product quality and technology centre (QTEC), to organize a three-day workshop to educate Pakistani exporters about Japanese norms. Around 30 leading exporters of Pakistan are attending the workshop, the Express Tribune reported.

During a meeting of JICA and TDAP officials, it was highlighted that Pakistan now exports just US$ 50 million worth of textiles, mainly raw materials, to Japan.

While Pakistan's key competitors like India, China and Bangladesh are speedily boosting their exports of value-added textile items to Japan, Pakistan still continues to mainly export raw materials to Japan, officials said.
