Lite-On Semiconductor will start to ship its in-house produced MOSFETs in the second quarter of 2012, according to the company, adding that the new product line is expected to help grow production utilization at its 6-inch wafer fab. Lite-On Semi also expects sales of its GPP bridge rectifiers and electro-static discharge (ESD) protective devices to continue to grow in 2012. The two product segments were key to drive company growth in 2011. Lite-on Semi saw its presence in the global GPP bridge rectifier market expand in 2011 after more rivals – mainly Japan-based players – had given up the business. Sales of GPP bridge rectifiers now account for more than 40% of Lite-On Semi's total revenues generated from its discrete component business, the company revealed. Lite-On Semi added it is also seeing orders for its ESD protective arrays remain strong thanks to demand coming from the smartphone sector. In addition, Lite-On Semi also expressed optimism about its proximity and ambient-light sensor business in 2012, citing strong demand for smartphones and tablets. Lite-On Semi pointed out that some negative macroeconomic factors might affect its business operation in the first quarter of 2012. But sales should hit bottom in the quarter, and start recovering in the second quarter. Source: www.digitimes.com
