The Vogue Eco-Friendly Concept Has Not Quite Ground Its Way Into Our Daily Life

Many of us have heard the words 'carbon' and 'footprint' together in a sentence before, but that doesn't mean the vogue eco-friendly concept has quite ground its way into our day-to-day lives. And while we are all a little more aware of how much water is coming out of our taps and how often lights are left on in unoccupied rooms, it doesn't necessarily mean the fight to stop wasting resources is over.

According to the Centre for Alternative Technology, that's the problem. Because while we're all doing our best to cut down on energy waste, the issue is still significant - and housing and transport are the two largest contributors to the UK's carbon spend.

"Our built environment and transport are the key ways we can reduce our energy demand," said a spokeswoman. "We have 20 million homes in the UK that need deep refurbishment to make them energy efficient - including double glazing, insulating walls and lofts."

Similarly, this week behavioural psychologist Lord Krebs made comments to the British Science Festival in Aberdeen noting that a so-called "nudge" from the government wasn't enough for people to make major changes such as reducing their energy spend or how much food they eat, and changes need to be made before such modified behaviours are widespread.

So, in case the message had bypassed you thus far: switching your traditional lighting for LED bulbs, such as those found in our range of LED bathroom lights, will significantly lower your household lighting bills.

LED bulbs save you money in three key ways: firstly, they use less energy to produce the same level of illumination - around 8W compared to a typical 60W bulb. Secondly, they produce a clean, instant light without generating heat, which can also be an energy leak - it's why LED bulbs don't attract moths or flies, too. And thirdly, over the course of the life of a bulb - much longer than that of traditional bulbs or even eco-friendly CFLs - the net energy spend made by your household to run an LED is much lower.
