The $156 million final judgment against Nucor Corp. Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., American Alloy Steel Inc. and JSW Steel (USA), for conspiring to drive competitor MM Steel LP out of business was delayed Monday by US District Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt after the defendants indicated they wanted a new trial.
The ruling was announced last week, and the delay will last until two weeks after he rules on all the defendants post-judgment motions. As SteelOrbis previously reported, Judge Hoyt initially increased the $52 million jury verdict against the steel firms, finding that they violated federal antitrust laws through an organized boycott to cut off MM Steel's customers.
