The Volume of Crude Steel Produced Was 5.5 Million Tons,an Increase of 4 Percent

According to the report from the Latin American Association of Steel (Alacero), in February 2013 the volume of crude steel produced was 5.5 million tons, an increase of 4 percent compared to the volume registered in the same month of 2012.

The country with the largest crude steel production in February 2013 was Brazil with 3 million tons, followed by Mexico with 1.5 million tons, together accounting for 82 percent of the Latin American total. Argentina showed a sharp drop to 29 percent of the crude steel production compared with February 2012.

However, Latin American crude steel production reached a combined volume of 10.3 million tons in January and February 2013, 2 percent lower than the amount accumulated in the same period of 2012.
