Audi Has Announced to Cancel Its 2011 A2 Electric Car Concept

German carmaker Audi has reportedly cancelled its plans to manufacture the production version of its 2011 A2 electric car concept, which was unveiled in Frankfurt in September 2011.

Based on the carmaker's A2 model, the new electric vehicle (EV) concept was planned for production in 2015 in two variants including a conventional plug-in hybrid and as a pure EV.

Autocar cited Audi sources as saying that 'lessons learnt from the new A2 project' would be incorporated in the development of future vehicles.

The concept was powered by an 114bhp electric motor and was aimed at delivering a 125-mile range from the fully charged lithium-ion battery pack.

Audi's decision is part of ongoing predictions that the market for pure EVs is expected to be much smaller than predicted.
