Hotel Adlon Kempinski, one of the most recognized and acclaimed hotels in Germany, has reduced its energy consumption by 80 percent following the replacement of halogen lighting with LED lamps in 382 hotel guest rooms. Seven thousand GE LED replacement lamps have been installed throughout the hotel in Berlin, reducing energy consumption by 140,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year compared to the halogen lamps previously used.

Hotel Adlon Kempinski has reduced its energy consumption by 80 percent following the replacement of halogen lighting with LED lamps in 382 hotel guest rooms.

The historical hotel has greeted guests from the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller and even Thomas Edison in the years since its 1907 inception. Today, its staff is comprised of a specialized “Green Inspiration Team” that regularly investigates the hotel's environmental impact. When the team considered new lighting, LEDs emerged as an ideal solution.

“We had two quality requirements that were of special importance to us throughout our lighting considerations,” says Thorsten Kluge, technical director of the Hotel Adlon Kempinski. “First, the new lamps had to offer quality lighting that fit into the aesthetics of the hotel without compromising any of our design characteristics. Secondly, we wanted a solution that was compatible with the current wiring and transformer infrastructure so we could avoid rewiring costs. We found all of this, and significant energy savings, in GE Lighting's MR16 7-watt LEDs.”

The dimmable GE MR16 7-watt LED lamps offer a long 25,000 operating life, which is five times longer than the previously used halogen solution.

“We are proud that the Hotel Adlon Kempinski, a hotel with one of the highest standards in the industry, selected our products for their suites and guest rooms,” says Frank Weiss, general manager of GE Lighting Germany. “This underscores GE's longstanding commitment to offer high-quality products to hospitality customers all over the world.”
