City Tire Co., with 11 stores in a four-state area, is celebrating 85 years of business in July 2013.
Founded in July, 1927, by Irving Greenberg, who had recently arrived in the United States from Russia, the company is now run by his grandsons, Peter and Danny Greenberg. During its 85 years, the company grew from its original store in Springfield, Mass., to stores in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont.
To help celebrate its 85th anniversary, City Tire, long-time Boston Red Sox supporters, will give 11 fans an opportunity to each win $8,500 in this year’s World Series, even if Boston is not involved.
Beginning in July, people may either visit a City Tire store or register online for a chance to win$8,500 if a grand slam is hit in the eighth inning of the first game. Each store will have a drawing to select a potential winner.
In addition to a wide range of tires, each of the 11 stores provides full-service repair work. The stores offer a complete range of tires, including truck, farm, high-performance and giant off-road.
City Tire is affiliated with Memphis-based Del-Nat Tire Corp., an independent tire distributor with a network of 80 dealer/distributors who are also stockholders in the company. Del-Nat is one of the nation’s leading independent providers of automobile, agriculture and commercial truck tires and tubes.
