The Latest Rumors Regarding a Possible Merger Between Motech and Nsp Have Been Denied

The latest rumors regarding a possible merger between Taiwan-based solar cell makers Motech and Neo Solar Power (NSP) have been denied by both firms. In addition, rumors regarding Gintech meeting up with TSMC to discuss possible cooperation have also been refuted by both parties.

A merger between the three largest solar cell makers in Taiwan, Motech, Gintech, and NSP, could give Taiwan an edge in the global solar market.

According to industry sources, Taiwan-based solar firms have a consensus that working together can strengthen the supply chain helping it to survive the current market downturn. If the three major solar cell makers in Taiwan cooperate, it is possible Taiwan could lead in the international solar cell market. The three firms have been listed among the top-ten solar cell makers in the world.

Simon Tsuo, chairman of Motech, noted that Taiwan's supply chain currently faces incomplete integration and a lack of strong branding. The supply chain needs to consider long-term strategies, added Tsuo. Regarding the rumors, Tsuo said the information is incorrect.

Sam Hong, president and COO of NSP, refused to comment on the rumors. Hong pointed out that an integrated Taiwan-based firm can achieve economies of scale and lower costs, especially when Taiwan has a strong competitive advantage in solar cell technology and quality. In addition, an integrated firm could have more negotiating power with clients and materials providers.
