Amcor Tobacco Packaging has installed two new long Rapida 106 systems from KBA-Sheetfed to boost its tobacco packaging production capabilities in Poland and Mexico.
Designed to provide maximum production performance of 15,000 sheets per hour, the 34m-long Rapida 106-LTT+10+LTTL ALV3 machine features a coating tower, two drying units, 10 printing units, double-coating equipment and triple delivery extension.
The Rapida 106 machines, each with 17 printing, coating and drying units, allows for offset high-quality packaging printing with elaborate finishing to be produced in one run.
KBA said that the machine’s printing and coating units are equipped for UV/mixed operation to offer high level of finishing diversity.
Each of the press, which is integrated in an automatic substrate logistics system, also features IR/TL/UV systems which are placed in the drying towers and in the delivery extension.
KBA noted that the two machines can be retrofitted with a ColdFoil Infigo SF 110 cold foil module.
Additional features of the presses include DriveTronic SPC simultaneous plate changers, including DriveTronic Plate Ident; CleanTronic Synchro for parallel washing processes; QualiTronic Professional for in-line ink density control and sheet inspection; and the PPS system LogoTronic Professional.
The presses’ coated ink duct panels allow for faster ink change while the emission extraction systems reduces emissions at the sheet delivery.
Amcor already operates Rapida 106 with 19 printing and finishing units at its tobacco packaging manufacturing site in Rickenbach, Switzerland. The unit was installed in 2012.
