Quality and the changing lifestages of consumers have been the most influential trends in the Chinese Syrups and Spreads market in 2011,reports Canadean–Food.
According to the report,"Consumer Trends in the Syrups&Spreads Market in China,2011",29.4%of the consumers surveyed said that the quality of the product has been the most influencing trend while for 25.1%of them it was the changing lifestages.Indulgence and technology uptake were at the bottom of the trends with 3.5%each.
Jams,Jellies&Preserves category dominated the Chinese market with 46%share,followed by Sweet Spreads at 29%,Savory Spreads 18%,Syrups 5%and Molasses 2%.
The market volume of Jams,Jellies&Preserves was 51%and that of Sweet Spreads was 24%.
Older consumers aged above 55 led the market with 23.3%,tweens and early teens aged 10-15 were the lowest consumers at 7.4%.
Male consumers had a marginal lead over females with 57.9%.
The Chinese Syrups and Spreads market is predominantly led by the urban population with 98%of the share held by them.
Among the educated class,undergraduates held 36.3%of the market share with the post secondary consumers coming second at 24.4%.
The affluent section formed 44.6%of the market and the moderate income group 27.5%.
Consumers having leisure time of three to five hours a day contributed 37.1%of the market share while those having more than seven hours of time formed 28.6%.
Over 80%of the Chinese Syrups and Spreads market,except Molasses,is held by branded companies;it is 75%in the Molasses category.
