A number of chemical wood modification technologies developed in recent years have now reached market maturity and are now increasingly being used on an industrial scale. These modification technologies aim to alter the proper-ties of wood by adding a biocide-free substance. The process aims to upgrade types of wood that are easy to source and low in cost by improving dimension stability and durability, allowing them to replace types of wood with high natural durability, primarily tropical wood, or allow treated wood to be used in exterior applications, as well.
