Double Amount of S. Africa's Carbon and Alloy Steel Were Imported in Feb

South Africa's primary carbon and alloy steel product imports (excluding stainless steel and drawn wire) amounted to 116,882 mt in February this year, increasing 23.9 percent compared to January this year, and double compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the customs and excise data released by the South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI).

The country's primary carbon and alloy steel products imports during the first two months of 2013 amounted to 211,208 mt, increasing by 47.2 percent compared to the 143,464 mt of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding period of 2011.

Of South Africa's total primary carbon and alloy steel product imports in the January-February period this year, 64.1 percent consisted of flat steel products, 23.3 percent consisted of profile steel products, while semi-finished products accounted for the remaining 12.6 percent.
