Flavored beverages producer Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) has purchased an additional stake in BA Sports Nutrition, makers of premium sports drinks line Bodyarmor.
The firm has invested an additional $6m to increase its stake from the current 11.7% to 15.5%. The purchase of additional stake follows the initial $20m investment announced in last August.
Since 2013, DPS has been carrying Bodyarmor as an allied brand, and now expanded distribution of the brand across its packaged beverages direct store delivery footprint that serves 34 states in the US.
DPS packaged beverages president Rodger Collins said: "Bodyarmor has been a winning addition to our allied brand lineup, enabling us to build our presence in the growing sports drink category with a great tasting and differentiated product.
"We're very pleased to be increasing our investment in Bodyarmor while working closely with its strong management team to win more fans in more places in the coming months and years."
Bodyarmor includes potassium-packed electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins, as well as natural sweeteners and natural flavors.
The sports drink, which is free from artificial colors, is available in eight different flavors. Recently, the brand launched its eighth flavor, Blackout Berry.
Bodyarmor chairman and co-founder Mike Repole said: "Bodyarmor has revolutionized the sports drink category by creating a premium, better-for-you sports drink, and consumers are connecting with it."
DPS is currently second-largest equity holder in the brand behind Repole, with the increased stake in the Bodyarmor business.
