According to the post on Forbes China, China accounts for almost 60% of both the world cement production and consumption. 16 million tons of cement were uesd in Three Gorges Dam, which was used as comparison by Bill Gates to decrible Chinese urgent demand of cement.
He said in his blog that China expended 6.6 billion tons of cement during 2011-2013. The number goes over the overall consumption of America in the 20th century. And during 1901-2000, projects such as skyscrapers, interstate highways, Hoover Dam and so on were finished. But only 4.5 billion tons of cement were used.
