Trade Resources Industry Views a Charity Ban on Chemical BPA

a Charity Ban on Chemical BPA

Breast Cancer UK, a charity has launched a petition calling the government for a ban of the use of the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) in food and drinks packaging.

According to the charity, the hormone-disrupting chemical BPA has been linked to breast cancer and other diseases.

Breast Cancer UK chairwoman Clare Dimmer said a government ban on BPA in packaging could help to reduce daily exposure to the chemical.

"I urge everyone to turn awareness into action and help prevent breast cancer by signing Breast Cancer UK's petition," Dimmer said.

BPA, which was banned in baby bottles throughout the European Union in 2011, is still used in various consumer products such as tin cans, plastic food packaging, water bottles and lunch boxes, the charity said.
