Nestle Malaysia Launched a Campaign to Educate Its Consumers About Spotting Fake Products

Nestle Malaysia has launched a campaign to educate its consumers about spotting fake products after Malaysian authorities seized imitations of Milo chocolate drink worth RM250,000 (S$94,058) in Negeri Sembilan.

The raid conducted by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry on March 13 had found that the counterfeit products were ready to be distributed around the state, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Following the scam, Nestle released a statement saying: "We would like to assure consumers that Nestlé is committed to providing the best quality products.

"The safety and quality of our products is a non-negotiable priority for the Company, and we are taking all necessary steps to protect the public from unscrupulous illegal operators who engage in manufacturing, distributing and/or selling counterfeit Nestlé products."

Advising consumers to buy the products from reputable retailers, the company's Facebook page also posted a photo explaining how to differentiate between fake and real products based on the perforation of its pack.

A message on the image read: "The original Milo packaging is machine packed and cut. As such the edges on the top of the original pack will not have a perfect perforation."

The Malay Mail Online reported that other items including 1,000 empty boxes, 50,000 empty plastic packs, a printer, a weighing machine and a numbering printer were also found during the raid.

Authorities have arrested six immigrants from Myanmar and Indonesia.
