According to data released by Brazil’s foreign trade ministry (MDIC), Brazil’s imports of steel flat products including carbon steel and non-alloy totaled 517,168 tons in the first half of 2013, slumping by 44% from 923,911 tons in the same period of a year ago.
In the first half of this year, China was the largest exporter of steel flats to Brazil with 225,594 tons, decreasing by 42.8% year on year; Korea was the second largest one with 79,641 tons, falling from 394,711 tons in the same period of a 2012.
To specify product, the imports of hot rolled coils (HRC) in the first half of this year totaled 57,187 tons, falling by 59.6%; those of heavy plates were at 67,542 tons, decreasing by 53.9% and those of cold rolled coils were at 121,698 tons, slumping by more than half, all compared to the figures in the same period of a year ago.
