First-tier China-based solar firms plan to offer 260W PV modules in the US market tro replace 250W models which were the mainstream power output in 2014, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Since energy conversion rates for polysilicon solar cells used to make 260W PV modules are required to be hiked to 17.8%, the production cost for 260W PV modules is higher than that for 250W models, the sources said.
As the 2012-imposed antitrust tariff rates will be reduced to an average 17.50%, first-tier China-based makers are expected to quote 260W PV modules in the US market at US$0.70-0.75/W, the sources indicated. In comparison, US- and Europe-based makers currently quote US$0.80-0.85/W for 260W PV modules and US$0.75-0.80/W for 250W models.
