Gerber Scientific Inc., a world leader in integrated solutions for the apparel and industrial markets, has appointed John Capasso as the new chief financial officer (CFO).
Capasso was most recently CFO of Varel International Energy Services, and brings a unique combination of public and private company experience to Gerber. He will oversee corporate finance, accounting, tax, investor relations, and information technology, and report to Gerber’s president and chief executive officer, Mike Elia, according to a press release.
A certified Public Accountant, Capasso has earned his undergraduate degree in business, majoring in accounting, at Boston College. He later attended the MBA program at New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Elia said, “John’s successful track record as operating vice president and CFO of both public and private companies made him the perfect candidate to step into this important role on our management team and be an instant contributor. We’re excited to have found a seasoned veteran who is eager to help us build on our growing financial strength and scale a business as diverse as ours.”
Capasso said, “This is an exciting time to be joining Gerber. I’ve watched the company over the years and have been impressed with its performance since it was taken private, and its progressive stream of new product introductions and investments in R&D. I’m excited to join a company that has established a trusted reputation that brand owners, manufacturers and retailers rely upon every day to design, manufacture and measure their products and businesses.”
The company has industry-leading computer automated cutting and spreading systems (GERBERcutters, GERBERspreaders), vision systems (Virtek), and software solutions including product lifecycle management (YuniquePLM) and pattern design (AccuMark). Headquartered in Tolland, Connecticut, USA, the company serves 25,000 customers, including more than 100 Fortune 500 companies. (GK)
