Tesla Motors is planning to launch its Model S electric sedan in US on 22 June 2012,which will also be delivered from its Fremont facility in California,following the launch.
Launched one month ahead of the schedule of July,the EV maker said that the sedans will be low priced ones and they will sold at a starting price of$49,900.
Model S electric sedan,offering seating for five adults and,in other variants a room for additional seats,can speed form zero-to-60-mph in 4.4 seconds powered by a 435hp electric powertrain.
The company will offer three different battery pack choices,with each offering different range and power.
The carmaker claims that the Model S is the enhanced range electric car featuring three battery pack options to meet the requirements of different drivers.
According to the company,the vehicle can be driven to a maximum distance in excess of 300 miles in a single charge,compared to the current 75-100 mile range,the current vehicles offer.
Tesla Motors CEO and chief product architect Elon Musk said,"In 2006 our plan was to build an electric sports car followed by an affordable electric sedan,and reduce our dependence on oil."
Tesla is planning to continue the production of the vehicle all through 2012 to meet its aim to deliver nearly 5,000 vehicles by the end of 2012,while has received 10,000 orders prior to its launch.
Tesla has received$465m in loans from the US Department of Energy,whic was used to finance 80%of the costs for developing the Model S and to upgrade its Fremont facility.
