The exports of textiles and garments from Tunisia, the smallest country in North Africa, increased by 7.06 percent to 472 million dinars, during the initial three months of 2013, compared with the corresponding period of last year. From January to March 2013, Tunisia’s textile and apparel imports fell by 2.87 percent year-on-year to 301 million dinars.
Thus, textile and garment trade balance in favour of Tunisia increased by 171 million dinars during the three-month period, according to the statistical data of Centre Technique du Textile (CETTEX or Technical Centre of Textiles). During January-March 2013, Tunisia’s textile and garment exports to the UK rose by 34.3 percent year-on-year, while those to Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France and Belgium, increased by 15 percent, 6.9 percent, 5.9 percent, 3.7 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively. However, the North African country’s textile and apparel exports to Italy declined by 7.9 percent year-on-year during the period under review.
