Record Steel Production Levels Set by AHMSA for 2013

For the first time in its production history, Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) exceeded the annual level of 4 million tons of crude steel and finished 2013 with a total volume of 4.155 million tons--7 percent more than the 2012 total.

The new global brand of liquid steel production meant record levels in different departments of the company, such as steelmaking departments BOF 1 and BOF2, transportation of liquid steel, continuous casting, line plate, and heavy profiles, among others, obtaining a total shipment of 3.55 million tons of finished product.

AHMSA focused their manufacturing processes for flat steel in the industries of construction, metalworking, automotive, white goods, and the oil industry, mainly hot and cold rolled sheets, tin plate and structural shapes in sheet and roll.

Luis Zamudio Miechielsen, General Director of AHMSA and Subsidiaries said that despite the negative impact of the drop in international steel prices and the entry of illegal imports, during the last year AHMSA maintained levels of operation that allowed the company to keep the workforce stable.
