According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in August this year new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey increased by 1.9 percent year on year to 87,885 units, down 19.7 percent on month-on-month basis. In the January-August period of this year, new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey totaled 672,864 units, decreasing by 14.2 percent compared to the same period of 2013.
New passenger car registrations in August this year totaled 43,902 units, decreasing by 30.1 percent as compared to July and down 8.9 percent year on year. Passenger cars accounted for 50 percent of total new motor vehicle registrations in the given month.
On the other hand, new small truck registrations in August decreased by 9.3 percent month on month and were up 23.6 percent year on year, amounting to 12,622 units. Small truck registrations constituted 14 percent of total new registrations in August.
