Baseline Survey of Powerloom Sector, initiated by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has begun in India's man-made textile hub of Surat last month.
The survey is being conducted by AC Nielson ORG MARG Pvt Ltd and is likely to be completed in a month's time.
The survey mainly aims at collecting data about the number of powerlooms in India, various kinds of fabrics manufactured by them, number of people working in the powerloom units, condition of the machines used, etc.
Mr. Hriday Narayan, Deputy Director in the Textile Commissioner's Office, had earlier told fibre2fashion that at present there is no authentic data to frame proper policies for the development of the powerloom sector and with the help of the baseline survey data, the Government will execute various policies to support the powerloom sector.
AC Nielson has prepared a nine-page format to gather all the relevant information about the powerlooms, including that related to their export and import markets.
