This Study Reviews Literature on The Uptake of Radiocations on Titanosilicate Materials

This study reviews the literature on the uptake of radiocations on titanosilicate materials, in particular the influence of physicochemical parameters on uptake. The use of titanosilicates is found to be beneficial as cleaning agents for radioactive effluents. This review by researchers in Romania and Italy also presents new results on the uptake of radiocations and their inactive homologues on a range of titanosilicate materials, in particular Engelhard titanosilicate-10 (ETS-10). The work highlights the influence of physical parameters, chemical composition and modification, structure, and uptake properties. The potential use of these materials is discussed for the separation of radionuclides for environmental and medical purposes. The retention mechanisms (uranium on ETS-10) and the immobilisation of retained radiocations in titanosilicate-type waste forms are also discussed. The researchers conclude that titanosilicates can be used as effective cleaning agents for radioactive effluents. They also suggest the need for and the direction of further investigations, before the potential scale-up of such technologies to an industrial level. Source: workingwithwater.filtsep.com
