Formosa Epitaxy,a Taiwan-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker,Crystalwise Technology(CWT)and Crystal Applied Technology(CAT),two Taiwan-based sapphire wafer makers, saw November revenues drop by 22.96%,9.32%and rise by 5.00%on month respectively, according to the companies.
The sequential decrease was due to decreases in order received and product price,Formosa Epitaxy indicated.Utilization of production capacity stands at 70-80%currently,higher than 50-60%in the fourth quarter of 2011,Formosa Epitaxy pointed out.
Due to weak demand, prices for a 2-inch sapphire wafer have fallen from US$7.5 in November to below US$7 while those for a 2-inch PSS(patterned sapphire substrate)have also dropped to US$13-14,according to Taiwan-based makers.
