Mercedes-Benz will introduce five new driver assistance systems into commercial vehicles over the coming months, increasing van safety.
Crosswind Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Highbeam Assist will all become part of the active safety on-board local Mercedes-Benz vans by late third quarter/early fourth quarter of 2013.
Of the five new systems being introduced, Mercedes-Benz says three – Crosswind Assist; Collision Prevention Assist; and Blind Spot Assist – are world firsts for the commercial van category.
With accident prevention the intended goal of active safety systems, Crosswind Assist maintains vehicle control in strong wind gusts, Collision Prevention Assist alerts drivers when getting too close to other moving vehicles ahead, and Blind Spot Assist warns drivers of neighbouring vehicles when changing lanes.
A long-term advocate and pioneer of safety technologies, Mercedes-Benz was the first brand to introduce anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control into the commercial models, in 1995 and 2002 respectively.
Currently the Mercedes-Benz Vito, Sprinter and Valente vans are available locally.
