Tandus Centiva Recycles Powerbondback Into New Material

Tandus Centiva recently recognized Chattanooga Airport for recycling 47,000 pounds of Powerbondback into new material. The Powerbond installation was in use for 23 years, with more than 640,000 people traveling through the Chattanooga Airport campus annually.

“Sustainability wise, the airport is trying to become the greenest airport in the world, and in doing so, we wanted a product we can put down on the floor, keep it for 23 years and at the end of those 23 years, be able to recycle it,” said John Naylor, the airport’s vice president of planning and development.

Powerbond was removed from the airport terminal and brought to Tandus Centiva’s third-party certified reclamation facility 21 miles away. It was closed-loop recycled into new flooring including ER3Modular tile that is now in the airport’s LEED-certified Wilson Air Center.

“Tandus Centiva is honored to recognize Chattanooga for its commitment to environmentally responsible products and practices. We value the partnership we have developed,” stated Erin Istanbulluoglu, director of environmental and social stewardship.
