Tyson Mexican Original, a subsidiary of US-based Tyson Foods, has announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Portland, Indiana, with an investment of $5.3m, a move which will create about 13 new jobs by 2016.
Tyson Mexican Original is a supplier of tortillas, tacos, chips and flatbreads to quick service Mexican restaurant chains.
The expansion, which involves installation of a new corn cook system, will expand the company's production capacity in Portland from 2.7 million pounds to 3 million pounds of products per week. The expanded facility is expected to go on stream by mid-September.
Mexican Original stated that it will begin hiring supervisors, operators and general production associates immediately.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered grants of about $50,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company's job creation plans.
Tyson Mexican Original currently employs more than 440 people in Indiana and about 1,530 across the US. It operates additional facilities in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Sanford, North Carolina along with ts Don Julio Foods' plant located in Clearfield, Utah.
