Lg Plans to Launch a New Flagship Series of Smartphones

LG plans to launch a new flagship series of smartphones that will be positioned above the existing G-series, a new report suggests.

An article by the Korea Herald claims that LG wants to outdo its own top-tier goods with a super-premium range, currently without name.

Cho Jun-ho, LG’s mobile business lead, said: “We are planning to release a product that stands above the G series.”

The G-series is currently LG’s high-end range of smartphones, the latest entrant being the LG G3. Its successor, the G4, is expected to release next month.

He added: “It will be launched during the second half of this year.”

The report claims the handset is expected to price at just over 1 million won, which equates to £594. When we reviewed the LG G3, it priced at £500, so this is a clear leap on current LG fare.

While it sounds off that LG would seek to supplant its own flagship smartphone series, there is some precedent for outdoing an otherwise flagship smartphone amongst other brands.

Apple, for instance, launched the iPhone 6 Plus alongside the iPhone 6. While very similar, the former does offer some improved specifications, namely display resolution and OIS on the camera.
