The sawmill Holzindustrie Lenzing will be terminating production of soft-wood lumber, planed products, finger-jointed structural timber, and solid wooden boards at the facility in Upper Austria. Lumber production is to end on 30 September 2012, the planing and gluelam plant is to close on 31 October. The business termination affects 104 employees. Hans-Günther Sturm, owner and managing director of Holzindustrie Lenzing and the German affiliate Matthäus Sturm, is currently conducting negotiations with the works council and the Upper Austrian Labour Market Service on cutting the jobs in a socially acceptable manner. Some initial talks on alternative employment for the workforce are already underway with several companies in the region. Talks are already underway too with the local chemical pulp and viscose manufacturer Lenzing, which is currently in the process of enlarging its Upper Austrian facility. Source: euwid-wood-products
