The UK has ranked eighth on an EU index that compares the country’s performance in waste management against the other 26 Member States.
The eighteen criteria for ranking depend on how much amount of waste each country recycles, the pricing of waste disposal and violations European legislations.
The factors going against UK were lack of introduction landfill restrictions or pay as you throw policies, the amount of biodegradable municipal waste being sent to landfill and not sending enough waste to energy recovery as some of its neighbors.
Austria stood first in EC, followed by The Netherlands and Denmark, which took the second and third places respectively.
