Continental has opened a new winter test center under the Chassis & Safety Division in Heihe, Heilongjiang, China, to meet the increasing demand for vehicle safety products as well as improve road safety in the region.
The new Heihe winter test center, which is located in a favorable environment for cold weather testing with a seven million sq m lake and 30,000 sq m land area, is the 4th such testing facility for ABS and ESC globally with the other three having already been established in the US, Europe and Japan.
The new facility will mainly focus on testing vehicle stability in all driving situations, especially on low friction surfaces.
Continental head of electronic brake systems unit Dirk Remde said the company sees a great potential for it in the China auto safety market.
"With the foundation of our winter test center, we are moving a big step closer to our ambitious goal of 'safety for everyone' and will further complete our capabilities for safety solutions in China, " Remde said.
Continental head of EBS R&D China Thomas Meurers said the Heihe winter test center integrates testing facilities and global expertise to carry out system tests and develop vehicle applications on new technologies and products.
