FIFA Introduces a New Fmeb with Automated External Defibrillators to Stop Cardiac Arrests

FIFA has introduced a new FIFA Medical Emergency Bag (FMEB) to improve the survival rate of the footballers who may suffer with sudden cardiac arrest on-pitch.

The core element of the bag includes the automated external defibrillator (AED), which can be easily seen in a clear pocket in the bag. This device can quickly diagnose any suspected heart problems, following which defibrillation can be initiated in case the heartbeat is irregular, weak or has stopped. This portable bag also features a medical emergency kit and instructional video.

FIFA Medical Committee chairman Michel d'Hooghe was quoted by Joy Online as saying, "Global use of defibrillators is one of the highest priorities for FIFA in our battle to prevent sudden cardiac death on the pitch."

FIFA Chief Medical Officer Jiri Dvorak was quoted by the website as saying that the medics on the pitch side will be trained to use this technology.

"The high specification of equipment in each one of these bags comes as standard and is a first for the world of sport," Dvorak added.
