The Malawi Orphanage Funded by The Toy Trust's Three Peaks Challenge Has Now Been Built

The Malawi orphanage funded by the Toy Trust's Three Peaks Challenge last year has now been built.

The UK toy industry's charity arm has revealed to ToyNews that the orphanage - named Toy Trust House - will be home to over 50 children whose parents have died from HIV or Malaria.

It will provide beds, regular meals and clothing, as well as pastoral care via foster parents who will look after the children each day.

The Toy Trust has also under-written the running costs of the orphanage for the next three years, and it has funded the building of an adjacent baby unit.

"This project has made a huge positive change to the welfare, happiness and life prospects of these 50+ orphaned children,” said Nick Austin, outgoing Chair of the Toy Trust.

"The Three Peaks participants and all who sponsored us should take enormous pride in what has been achieved in Malawi over the past few months with the £135,000 we raised.

"It really does go to show that we CAN make a massive difference to the lives of underprivileged children when we show vision, compassion and determination."

Plans to build the orphanage were made last year.

This year the Toy Trust plans to raise over £100,000 to fund 80 specially adapted trikes for profoundly disabled children in the UK.

More than 150 cyclists have already volunteered for the 70-mile Round the Isle of White Ride on June 8th.
