China's exports of unwrought magnesium, with a minimum magnesium content of 99.8%, fell 33.7% year on year to 11,844 mt in February, data released Wednesday by the country's General Administration of Customs showed.
February exports were 45.5% lower than shipments in January.
Over January-February, exports stood at 33,576 mt, up 6.5% year on year.
Over January-February, China's top 10 export destinations for unwrought magnesium were the Netherlands (11,527 mt), Japan (3,737 mt), Canada (3,010 mt), India (1,578 mt), South Korea (1,504 mt), United Arab Emirates (1,491 mt), Germany (820 mt), Greece (788 mt), Norway (752 mt) and the UK (749 mt).
The combined exports to these 10 destinations totaled 25,956 mt, representing 77.3% of China's total unwrought magnesium exports for the first two months of this year.
Meanwhile, China's magnesium alloy exports in February were 5,899 mt, down 21.3% year on year and down 53.2% from January. For the first two months of this year, exports of magnesium alloy totaled 18,494 mt, up 25.3% from the same period in 2013.
China's exports of magnesium powder, granules and chips slid 27.6% year on year to 3,911 mt in February. These were 58% lower than volumes in January. Over January-February this year, the exports stood at 13,216 mt, up 14% year on year.
As for wrought magnesium, China exported 210 mt in February, down 15.4% year on year and down 57.2% from January. For the first two months of this year, exports totaled 700 mt, up 8.9% year on year.
Exports of magnesium articles stood at 394 mt in February, down 12.4% year on year and down 17.3% from January. Over January-February, exports totaled 870 mt, up 25.4% year on year.
