Paragon's New Film Keeps The Spring Vegetable Fresher for Longer

Paragon Print & Packaging has collaborated with Tesco to develop a new packaging film which optimizes perforation technology to address loss of moisture within the packs.

The technically engineered film, which is claimed to extend asparagus shelf life further by an extra two days, has been developed at Paragon Flexibles' Food Science facility.

This will delay the onset of toughening and fibrousness, which is typically found after four days on shelf.

Paragon's new film keeps the spring vegetable fresher for longer. The solution improves flavor, texture and appearance to deliver an optimal solution for the product's packaging.

Through its physical barrier to contamination, the film is also expected to deliver a hygienic solution in store.

Tesco technical manager for produce (potatoes & seasonal vegetables) Laura Drew said, "This new pack solution enables us to maximise our quality and freshness offer to customers and gives us greater flexibility with merchandising location in store."

The new pre-printed format will hit Tesco stores across the UK during asparagus season 2013.
