LED packaging house Everlight Electronics, recorded June consolidated revenues of NT$1.892 billion (US$62.7 million) down 11.82% on month, while fellow packaging houses Unity Opto Technology had revenues of NT$604 million, down 14.47%, and Lextar Electronics those of NT$1.290 billion, down 2.27%, according to the companies.
Everlight has obtained orders for small- to medium-size LED backlight units (BLUs) from China-, Taiwan- and South Korea-based smartphone vendors, with large-volume shipments to begin in the second half of 2013, the company indicated. Everlight's January-June consolidated revenues were NT$10.919 billion, up 21.33% on year.
Unity Opto said it will start shipments of LED BLUs for use in new touch-screen notebooks and tablets in July, and shipments for new LED street lamps in the third quarter. Unity Opto's January-June consolidated revenues were NT$3.723 billion, increasing 30.30% on year.
Of revenues from all LED BLUs used in LCD TVs, the proportion for direct-type models will rise to 50% in the third quarter, Lextar said. For LED lighting, Lextar has begun to ship COB (chip on board) devices to Europe-based vendors for use in 4-100W LED bulbs, downlights and projection lights, and is competing for orders from China-based vendors. Lextar saw January-June consolidated revenues of NT$6.714 billion, up 39.77% on year.
