Availability of Enseal G2 Articulating Tissue Sealer Will Be Announced by Ethicon

Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, has announced the availability of its ENSEAL G2 articulating tissue sealer in the US.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery claims ENSEAL G2 is the first and only articulating advanced energy device that allows surgeons to take a perpendicular approach to cut and seal vessels up to 7mm in diameter and lymphatics through a 5mm port.

The device will help surgeons maneuver around corners and behind structures in the body, and provide better access to tissue in deep or tight spaces for greater control of the angle of approach to vessels.

When compared to ENSEAL non-articulating devices, ENSEAL G2 allows surgeons to take a perpendicular approach to vessel sealing that contributes to stronger seals.

It also allows the surgeons to take the full vessel in a single bite, while reducing the likelihood of internal bleeding and post-surgery complications for patients.

Iowa Methodist Medical Center GYN oncologist Dr Steven A Elg noted the ENSEAL G2 Articulating allowed him to perform the entire para-aortic dissection from the same port.

"Prior to ENSEAL articulation this was not possible," Dr Elg added.

ENSEAL G2 articulating builds on the company's existing portfolio of advanced bipolar tissue sealers, including ENSEAL G2 super jaw device, and ENSEAL G2 curved and straight tissue sealers.

ENSEAL G2 articulating tissue sealer will be featured this week at the 42nd American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Global Congress on Minimally Invasive Gynecology.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery has obtained 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for ENSEAL G2 articulating tissue sealer in February 2013.
