India Has Launched a Program to Achieve Beyond 19 Million Tonne Pulse in The Kharif Season

India has launched a program to achieve more than 19 million tonne pulse in the Kharif season – the rainy season in the country which starts in May and ends in January.

The program will focus on three crops - pigeon pea, green gram and black gram.

Under the program, the productivity will be increased by intercropping; implementing dry land agriculture techniques like in situ moisture conservation; and implementing technologies relating to plan nutrition and water use.

Research institutes, private companies engaged in micro irrigation and production of special nutrients, and fertiliser cooperatives (IFFCO and KRIBHCO) are being involved in this program, reported the Economic Times.

In addition, SFAC (Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium) will work to create farmer groups, in order to help small farmers in using the technologies.
