With the US government having almost halved the 2012-set average antitrust tariff rates for PV modules imported from China, China-based PV module makers are expected to regain their pricing competitiveness in the US market, according to PV industry observers in Taiwan.
Since the US Department of Commerce (DOC) decided to lower the tariff rates in late December 2014, China-based PV module makers have already lowered quotes to US$0.68-0.70/W, the observers indicated.
As the reduced 2012 rates will come into effect in April 2015, and China-based PV module makers are expected to further lower prices to US$0.65-0.68/W, the observers said.
China-based module makers hiked quotes to US$0.75/W during the second half of 2014 as a result of a separate set of antitrust tariff rates imposed by the DOC in July 2014. They can now choose the reduced 2012 rates instead.
