Driven by robust sales performance from its clothing fabric business, Japan’s Komatsu Seiren Co. Ltd witnessed a modest rise in its revenue in Q2 FY 2013-14.
The fabric manufacturer posted a 4.4 per cent rise in sales at 19,071 million yen in the second quarter ended 30 September 2013 from 18,263 million yen in the same period a year ago.
Sales from the clothing fabric segment witnessed a 4.6 per cent rise at 12,038 million yen in the second quarter ended 30 September 2013 from 11,512 million yen in the same period a year ago.
Within the company’s clothing fabric segment, the fashion division witnessed an 11.2 per cent rise in sales at 7,185 million yen in Q2 FY 2013-14 from the same period a year ago despite subdued demand from the European economy.
The sports fabric segment posted a 7.5 per cent increase in sales at 3,238 million yen, year on year in Q2 FY 2013-14 amid a recovery in overseas markets but the national costume division saw a 20.8 per cent dip in sales at 1,614 million yen in the same period amid a market downturn.
The material fabric division witnessed an 8.4 per cent dip in sales at 4,329 million yen in the second quarter ended 30 September 2013 from the same period a year ago.
The company posted a net income of 758 million yen in Q2 FY 2013-14, down by 4.7 per cent from 796 million yen in the same period a year ago.
