Global intelligent robots and autonomous mobile solutions provider Adept Technology has unveiled its new lead-free SmartController EX distributed motion controller, which has been designed for use with Adept robots.
SmartController EX features Gigabit Ethernet processor and new software Adept eV+ and can increase a robot's cycle speeds by up to 5%, with more processing power and faster communication.
The controller's Adept eV+ software is based on modern technology and built around a real-time operating system. It is backward compatible with V+ code and tightly integrates with Adept's vision-guidance technology for optimal robotic performance.
Adept Technology sales and marketing senior vice president John Boutsikaris said the new controller will enhance the performance of the robots it controls and also provides a solid foundation for future advancements.
"The new SmartController EX combines powerful new hardware with entirely new software that benefits from the intellectual property accumulated over Adept's 25 year history as a robotic leader," Boutsikaris said.
The SmartController EX has been designed for use with Cobra s-series SCARA robots, Viper six-axis robots, Quattro parallel robots and Python Linear Modules. It is backward compatible with the company's CX controller.
According to the company, the controller comes with a new, optional T20 Pendant hand-held device, which provides a user interface in an ergonomic and rugged package. The T20 is lighter and features a colorful interface to ease use, when compared to previous generation pendants.
